This post has details of the Bundesliga Winter Break and January Fixtures to help plan a football trip to Germany in 2019.
The winter break begins after Matchday 17 in the Bundesliga and Matchday 18 in Bundesliga 2 (21-23 December 2018) and ends on 18 January 2019 in the Bundesliga and on 29 January 2019 in Bundesliga 2. The 34th and final Bundesliga Matchday will take place on 18 May 2019, with the Bundesliga 2 campaign concluding the following day.
The kickoff times for January and some February fixtures have been announced with the action starting again with the Bundesliga and Bayern Munich away v Hoffenheim at 19:30 on Friday 18th January. From Hoffenheim you could head either North to Frankfurt v Freiburg or South to Stuttgart v Mainz on Saturday 20th. Both are less than 2 hours away. If you decide on Frankfurt then carrying on North to Gelsenkirchen for their game at 17:00 on Sunday v Wolfsburg is another 2 to 3 hour train journey. If you head to Stuttgart on the Saturday then you have a similar length journey to go to Nurnberg v Hertha Berlin at 14:30 on the Sunday.
The following week you could start in Berlin on the Friday night (25th January) for their game v Schalke. From Berlin it’s only an hour the next day for Wolfsburg v Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
February fixtures start on Friday 1st with Hannover 96 v Leipzig at 19:30. From there, on the Saturday you could head to Berlin for Hertha v Wolfsburg in under 2 hours on the train. Or to Gelsenkirchen for Schalke v Borussia Monchengladbach at 17:30. That should take just over 2 hours on the train.
The final set of fixtures for 2019 that have been announced start in Mainz on Friday v Bayer 04 Leverkusen or Cologne for the 1. F.C Koln game v St Pauli (tickets for this may be hard to come by). On the Saturday from Cologne it’s easy to get to Monchengladbach for Borussia v Hertha. Also nearby on the Sunday is Dusseldorf v Stuttgart.
